but aren't sure how to put one together it really is a simple matter.

Fishing has been a way of providing food and enjoying the great outdoors for thousands of years. Fishing for sport using rods has been around for centuries. The first fishing rods were little more than branches from trees with string tied to them. Today fishing rods come in various sizes, many of which are collapsible fishing rods, that can be broken down allowing them to take up less space when being transported.

Fishing rods come in one or two pieces and you can also get a telescoping fishing rod which allows you to carry your fishing rod in your pocket or the glove box of your car. Most fresh water fisherman like the two piece collapsible rod as they save space and are simple to put together. For those who are new to fishing and thinking about getting a 2 piece or collapsible fishing rod, but aren't sure how to put one together it really is a simple matter.

Assembling A Fishing Rod

Once you take the two pieces of rod out of the package you simply slide the top part of the rod into the bottom part of the rod making sure that the eyes are lined up with one another. You then loosen the metal strip at the grove in the rods handle and slide the reel' base into the grove. Tighten the metal straps until the reel is held firmly in place without moving.

In some cases a new reel already comes equipped with the fish line. If the reel you purchased does not, then you are going to have to put line on your rod. Purchase a spool of line in the correct weight for the type of fishing you will doing. Pull a good length of line off the reel and thread it through the eye's of the pole and tie the end around the center bar of your reel. Now begin winding the line onto the reel and continuing until the reel is about half full. (If you have someone that can loosely hole the spool of line while you do this the process goes much smoother.) Once the correct amount of line is on the reel then measure 6 to 12 inches from the end of the tip of the rod and cut off the line at this point. Attach tackle and whatever lure (if any) you plan to use and your rod is ready to go.

Once your rod is assembled you can easily slip the two pieces apart again for transportation in the trunk of your car or to take up less space in that back pack.

Keep in mind that collapsible fishing rods come in a wide range of styles and colors and if you have never been fishing before then check with an experienced fisherman to get some idea on what is the best all around fishing rod for beginners. Most fishermen love the sport and will be happy to answer your questions and encourage you to try this very exciting and enjoyable hobby.
